About
In July 1981 petrol was poured through the letterbox of a house in Walthamstow, leading to a fire that swept up the stairs killing Parveen Khan and her three children. Khan's husband, Mohammed Yunus Khan, survived by jumping from an upstairs bedroom. While the attack was widely believed by residents to be a racist hate crime, the police disputed this, and the perpetrators were never identified.
