Bakhshish Singh Bhullar migrated from the Punjabi town of Bhullar, India to Huddersfield in 1952. He was accompanied by his brother Mohan Singh Bhullar. They were among the first Sikhs to settle in the town. Bakhshish became a door-to-door salesman, selling groceries and poultry. In 1958 Bakhshish and his brothers, Mohan and Sohan Singh Bhullar, opened their first business together, an Asian goods store on 44 Springwood Street, Huddersfield. Several businesses followed, which became part of the Bhullar Brothers chain. Bhullar Brothers became a limited company on 22 October 1964 and is still in operation.
Bakhshish became the founding president of the Guru Nanak Gurdwara on Prospect Street, Springwood, Huddersfield in 1963. He died in January 2014, aged 88.
