About
Mohan Singh Bhullar migrated from the Punjabi town of Bhullar, India to Huddersfield in 1952. He was accompanied by his brother, Bakhshish Singh Bhullar. They were among the first Sikhs to settle in the town. In 1958 Mohan and his brothers, Bakhshish and Sohan Singh Bhullar, opened their first business together, an Asian goods store on 44 Springwood Street, Huddersfield. Several businesses followed which became part of the Bhullar Brothers chain. Bhullar Brothers became a limited company on 22 October 1964 and is still in operation.
In 2003 Mohan and his family became involved in a prominent court case with his brother Sohan and his family. The case concerned a conflict of interest in business opportunities related to Bhullar Brothers and is often studied as part of UK corporate law. Mohan and his family won the case.
Mohan’s granddaughter, Harpz Kaur, is a radio presenter and was the host of BBC Asian Network’s breakfast show between 2017 and 2022.
